If you want something to have an engaging story and where you can just watch tv on the meantime? Pokemon
If you want to have a huge big story - DQXS, FF

I play sonic generations, watch dogs, street fighter 2 and crash team racing while waiting on pokemon shield. If you wish to boycott sword/shield, I would recommend re5, a hat in time, gun gun pixies, atelier ryza, or super monkey ball.

Depending on your tastes, any of those will be a ton of fun. They're all much more polished than Sword and Shield, with true passion put into each project.

I'm going to stick to Switch JRPGs since I presume that's the system and genre you're looking at:

Based. I play the crash and spyro reboots, breath of the wild, Mario maker 2 and Luigi's mansion, all great options. The spyro and crash remakes are only $34 so you could get both for the price of a pokemon game
