How did the designs for pokemo become so shit?

Seriously, just look at the designs for the first 3 generations. Super clean and great style, nothing forced. These new pokemon actually look like shit for the most part.

Gen 5 and 6 had some good designs, but yeah, starting there James designs started to get in the mix and spoiled it all, by gen 7 most of the pokemon looked like western cartoons.

Different staff, different society, different era.
They're lazier now. Their audience has different demands now. Their bosses put different pressures on them now.
Anyone who thinks a series is going to still look good after this long is fucking deluded, no amount of money can secure permanent talent. Pokemon's golden age peaked with HG/SS. Gen 4 was the start of shitty pokemon designs being the status quo and them disregarding good color balance and color theory in their designs.
