That one purple dog Pokemon with masks someone tried to pass off as real was a decent model, but everyone knew it was fake because it didnt look the part. This Intellion does.

The problem with the final stage is that it doesn’t scream “spy” to me, at least not at first glance. How did Affleck, without context, look at that and say “spy theme” is the most notable and key feature of it to describe? I think normal people would just say something like skinny lizard

Making him the art director was a mistake.
The new designs have atrocious color choices that make them feel more like toys, and less like creatures.
Doesn't help that most of them are also lazily designed.....

Because the whole attire is a classic 60s vibe from it. Maybe it isn't even a spy, looks like a vigilante with the cape. Also, we haven't see how it fights in battle! Remember back when Greninja was first leaked? People hate it, looks kinda weird with the tongue scarf and the strange triangular square like "ears" that sticks out of its face. That all changed when its official art arrives along with its gameplay showing it chucking out water shurikens in battle and did some strider like moves during its attacks. Maybe that will change our opinions on Sobble's final evo.

Why was he only art director for one game? Was he just too ashamed to stay on knowing it would be such a shit show from now on? Why did masuda get to stick around as director and producer - especially with his ideas for what Gen 5 should be - when Ohmura dipped out immediately?

Turner is perfectly fine when he’s in charge of his own personal handful of designs, as he’s done the last 3 gens.

I did posted this a while back ago but my guess is that if you look at Sobble along with its entire evolutions, Sobble is that kind of pokemon who felt insecure and miserable in its life and when it became its mid evo, it harness its sorrow and masked its identity, hiding it from the world, if you look at it, it looks like a masked burglar.
