As someone who was there during Gen 5 “hype” season, the vast majority of the hate came from genwunners who were just shitting “Gen 1 is best all else is shit” or from people who just hated specific designs like the starters, Vanilluxe, and Garbordor. The hate on modern games is much more widespread.

I only remember genwuntards (not to be confused with Kantokids) who never actually play a game to begin with but only watch Kanto Arc of OS insult gen 4. I remember them praising Yellow and calling DP Demente and Pirla (Demented and Poophead) in my country. Gen 5 is different, as it is true that people hated it because it was a softreboot with the new design not appreciated, but after a while more and more people accepted it. So that argument maybe can be true for gen 5, but not for gen 4. Even gen 6 was accepted in pre-release season and its fate was a sort of ''reverse BW'' with people liking it when it came out and progressively hating/disliking it because XY and ORAS were rushed unfinished unmemorable games, so when people realized it, the less they liked them.

Note I am talking objectively as a whole. HeartGold/SoulSilver may be the best individual games but it's in the same gen as Diamond/Pearl.

Right, because black and white carried over all of those lovely features from hgss and platinum. Gen 5 started us on the path of annoying NPCs interrupting every few steps and holding your hand through the entire story.

No. Just because you were 7 and all your little friends liked the game and were hyped doesn't mean that only the big bad gen 1 fags were complaining. Especially not with gen 4 where every generations cross evos was massively controversial. Gen 3 fags absolutely hated Dusknoir and Regigigas, and the game moved at the pace of molasses. It damn sure wasn't just genwun fags shitting on the game.

Like how Gen 5 got mixed opinions because of BW but everyone loved BW2.
