Only really fucked up on the starters
Centipede seems like one he personally designed and its based

I doubt he has complete control over designs, and the biggest problems about the starters are the continuation of trends from the last couple gens anyways. He should have veto'd them I suppose but I'm willing to believe it was somewhat out of his hands. Besides, the art and the look of the region and stuff is otherwise good (he's the art director remember, not lead monster designer)

Agree. Everything else looks pretty good honestly, so I'm wondering if someone higher up or something had some specifics they wanted for the starters and that's how they turned out because of it?

But we also know with Pokemon that sometimes instructions come from up high. He can't just refuse his bosses. Maybe he was forced to do humanoid starters and this is the best his team could come up with under those constraints.
