This is the worst regional dex we ever had. I'm so glad we get much better designs nowadays.

Sinnoh's was worse. DP only had 2 Fire-type lines and 3 Electric-type lines, and nearly half the dex was Water-types. Platinum barely fixed it.

Nothing will beat gen 4 dex at being shit.

Gen 1, 3 and 5 had a large selection they could teams on their own.
Gen 2, 6 and 7 were small, but had usable Pokemon.

Gen 4 was useless shit after useless shit after useless shit, wasted baby Pokemon slots, transfer evos and redundant types.

there were also some typical kanto fodder mons sprinkled around (sandshrew diglet zubat geodude etc), plus girafarig (safari), vulpix (mt pyre), chinchou (diving), and even abra in a couple places
