People liked Rolycoly for the locomotion theme. It could've easily been another basic Rock type like Geodude or Roggenrola, but the wheel made it extremely fun.
When the theme was dropped for generic rock monster, people were naturally going to be disappointed that it didn't follow through with the theme that even the second stage continued with.

Attaching three Rolycoly evos into a single line of cars and calling RolyTrioly would have been better at this point. Just make the coal piles smaller too.
