If pokemon home turns out to be a battle simulator would you consider buying the new games?

Honestly same, assuming that Home's battle sim is "complete" and includes Megas and Z-moves and the like.

Hell, I know it won't happen, but if it had an option to battle with older generation's mechanics (mostly Gen I's comically broken mechanics DESU) I'd buy one or both of Sword or Shield new on top of all that.

I think they mentioned it was meant to work on mobile too, so having a style like stadium might be out of the question.

I'd settle for showdown too and buy it.

A mobile game in 2020 could absolutely work in a Stadium-style battle sim. That's been possible on phones for at least five years now.
Game Freak is the limiting factor here.

sure, I'd be fine paying a 5 dollar monthly sub to home and a sub to switch online to get them to connect and play with others. because, don't forget, you need to pay the fee to go online in pokemon now to play a turn based game and do things like raid or wondertrade. isn't that great? such a feature loaded title.
