I unironically like Pokemon S&S' graphics. Soft colors, light bloom, nicely drawn textures. Why does /vp/ hate it? Because it's not realistic or brown enough?

Because the people who come here are bitter virgins that are mad that a children's RPG game on an underpowered handheld with thousands of unique character models doesn't look like Crysis with an open world to rival Breath of the Wild.

It isn't bad but feels unfinished and flat. I think it'd look better if it had more trees and bushes and tall grass. The dirt roads also stand out a bit too much.

I think the graphics are fine for a Pokemon game. Let’s face it, even Xenoblade (which had a tiny budget and an even smaller team) looks better than this game. And no don’t show me the undocked still loading textures bs.
But yeah, graphics aren’t a problem for me here... but how void the wild area is? It seems just like a plain area with a bunch of raid spots and wild Pokemon. Nothing to really explore (at least from what i saw in the trailers) and the mons don’t even interact with each other to make it livelier. It’s just boring.
Otherwise the cities look clean imo.

overworld graphics have never been a selling point for pokemon to me; i always thought that was just a thing nobody really cared about outside of very certain routes/areas

Exactly this, and the footage of the game we have seen is from early areas on an early save, I personally wouldn't let my team put more Dev time into a Pokemon like Wingull's animations over, say, Pikachu or Charizards.

Was never an issue until Masuda gave one of many excuses about why they did the Dexcutting.
Dont think this is the first time someone brings the issue with Game Freak with 3d graphics

/vp/ and everyone else only started hating on them after Game Freak said that they weren’t programming the other Pokemon into the games so that they could improve things like graphical fidelity, textures, and animation. Clearly, those things have not changed too much from the 3DS era.

were you living under a rock? People were criticizing the graphics from the first reveals. They just weren't upset about it until the animations were revealed as supposedly the reason for the dex cut.

graphics peaked around 2002 anyway and have suffered from diminishing returns every year since then. Sorry but gamecube level graphics are PERFECTLY FINE, as long as it's not a blocky mess like N64 or 2D pixels like NES then there's no reason to complain about graphics anymore. In terms of immersion, there's really not any difference between what we have on the switch now and what we had 10-15 years ago. If you have to complain about something like SwSh graphics, you're spoiled, because it barely affects enjoyment of the game

i don't hate this style but i wish they had stuck with the toony water shader from the previous games. the water doesn't ripple at all when Pokemon swim through it so it just looks like they're clipping through the water. if they kept the toon water there could have been a simple white ripple texture and it would have looked fine.

"Distractingly bad" is Three Houses, and even that was fine, it didn't ruin the game for anybody except maybe for a few complete retards who should not be playing anything other AAA live services.
