The Pokémon themselves, in terms of gameplay, are just data. You just need to change stats, level-up moves, typing, etc. and you got all the Pokémon you want in game. This is very easy to do.

The hard part are textures and animations which can be imported from the 3DS games, as GF itself did.

If you doubt this is possible, take a look at the rom hacks made for the GBA, DS and 3DS games.

Dont forget there are a few animations they seemed to have added like the dynamax intro animation, though they probably could just use one of the attack animations in its place given even in game dynamax animations are super generic and hard to tell apart from normal attack animations. That and making some of the textures HD.

Rom hacks make Pokémon games much better.

You can usually encounter all non-legendaries before the post-game, so you can make more varied teams and NPCs also have more varied rosters.

Also, games tend to be more challenging, which is a plus given how piss easy Pokémon games are.

I fully expect him and the other guys in the scene to get all models and data structures imported into the XCI. You can already mod Switch games with LayeredFS. I remember back in October 2013 when smealum made a huge leap with 3DS hacking and revealed Mega Latios, Mega Latias, Diancie, Hoopa, and Volcanion. This is child's play in comparison. The Switch Lite not being hackable yet means nothing because everyone has figured out the regular Switch and Yuzu also exists.

They would only have to add models if it's like LGPE. Let's Go had all the Pokemon programming data they just lacked models, replacing them with Cubone if hacked in. Model replacement is the one thing we can do with 3ds hacking and if it's like LGPE adding them in won't take too much work.

I don't think most people give a shit about the low res textures. I play Masters on my 4K phone and it uses the 3DS models and textures, so I'm pretty sure they'll function just fine with the Switch models which seem to be the exact same but with updated textures.

The 3DS was hacked fully just after XY and it became a battle between firmwares, but hackers never had a problem getting in as long as you had a lower firmware. Only with the introduction of a9lh and GodMode9 was 3DS hacking became easy as piss.

Switch hacking is different since its hardware based, hence the serial number sniping of Year 2 Switches and basically any Year 1 Switch.

Then there's the nu New Switch for next year, that thing can't get hacked too.

95% of the work is done. The hardest part is figuring out how to add the files to the game.

ROM hackers will put Game Freak to shame by doing in a month what GF refused to do with the BS justification it took too much work.

Just a screenshot with bulbasaur is nothing, anyone can use tools to edit a save and add pokemon into a game, it was done with let's go a ton. "Fixing" the dex cut would require all old pokemon included in the main game to be available to catch, trade, and battle with proper textures and a dynamax model. That's a huge undertaking and I'm skeptical that the necessary data is even present within SwSh itself

It doesn't sound like "half" the work to me. Very little has to be done in terms of unique programming.
You don't have to make new textures (they'll look like the 3DS ones and won't look as good as the newer textures)
Missing Gen I Pokémon and Meltan/Melmetal can have all their assets taken from LGPE
You don't have to come up with new movesets, you could settle on just reusing them from LGPE and USUM

The trickiest part is seeing how Gen VIII differs from LGPE and USUM in how it uses its assets. Yes, Dynamaxing has some new animations, but it's not like you have to make new animations. Just use old animations as placeholders. The goal is to make the Pokémon compatible, not to make them a central part of the game. It'll be like SM where a National Pokédex isn't present, so 400+ Pokémon were essentially non-existent in the game unless you transferred up, injected, or battled/traded with someone who did.

that was when Fray and The_Smashfather got together to break the mod with a community mod anyone can contribute to. All with a Goldeneye 007 mod tool for N64 games.
yeah it took a bit of a while, but the effort on getting some custom slot engine to work in 64 after figuring how to import less than a year is pretty admiring.

it wasn't done under a week either.

Excuse me retard do you have any experience with games dev or 3D modelling? 3D models are universal, so they can be pulled from any source and shoved up into the ass of another one since they're just mathematical data of polygons that construct the model. That's right no matter the engine or language that the game is based around 3D models are universal. The only limitation being that older hardware can't compute newer, more detailed models but that's irrelevant in this case as the models were made in a past gen and are being used on a current already.
