Just to explain my previous comment a bit more (Just in case someone didn´t understood my point).
Serperior (feminine design, specially compared with the other two), samuroth (masculine design. Literally a Samurai with beard and a sword) and emboar (edgy design. Fire, fangs,and inspired in of of the "bad guys" from journey to the west). Currently like this:
Serperior, Delphox and Primarina - Feminine.
Samuroth, Chesnaught and Incineroar - Masculine
Emboar, Greninja and Decidueye - Edgy/Cool-looking.
For this gen, now that they finished the cycle, the pattern got a reset:
Cinderace - Feminine
Rillaboom - Masculine
Intelleon - Edgy/Cool-looking
I mentioned all this in addition to my previous comment to explain how the pattern started in gen 5, how the gen 5 starters fit into the pattern and the fact that it seems that this pattern got a reset for this gen now that they finished the first cycle.
