World was 100% new content with new skeleton rigs and new animations and ecological behavioral patterns. They also promised that they would try their hardest to add older monsters to post game for free to make up for it, which they did. Now Iceborn doubles that roster and also brings back old flagships and favorites like Tigrex and Gore Magala.
Pokémon is cutting content because they know they can get away with it, promising to NOT patch in the rest of the roster through free DLC, and asking for an extra 20$ for repackaging the same game with less content for the 3rd gen in a row.
I WISH Pokémon got the MHW treatment. If GF said "We have to cut about half the dex because we're bringing these creatures to life and not having them T-pose across hyrule field, but we'll try our best to add more down the line", I honestly wouldn't have a problem. I skipped ORAS when they came out, USUM, and LGPE. I don't have a problem skipping swishyswoosh either.
