Runerigus. Galarian Yamask (Ground/Ghost) evolves into it. Soul Rune replaces Mummy but works exactly the same.

Claydol, Flygon, Mamoswine, Diggersby, and Rhyperior are the only deviations from the Water/Steel/Ghost hybrids. But yeah, I have no idea. I was mad and disappointed with Gamefreak about the purge, but I thought they would try and include as many unique type pairings as possible while focusing on purging duplicates. The opposite seems true.

Honestly it's hard to have any sympathy for other types when my favourite type got shit on so hard this gen.

I mean Sudowoodo, Solrock and Lunatone are shit tier.
The amount of good rock types there I can count on one hand. Genuinely.
In terms of new pokemon from that list we got Drednaw, Coalossal and Stonjourner. I like Drednaw and Coalossal but still it's just not enough.
We got fucking massacred.

And it could have been even fewer than this, I guarantee you they designed Yamask and Ruinrigus as Rock/Ghost-types and then suddenly realised there were only two brand new Ground-type Pokémon and changed it to Ground/Ghost last second. There's no other explanation for that typing, it makes no sense.

Worst thing is that if you were hoping to run monotype in something resembling the Galar Dex, you are absolutely fucked by Grass types. All of Ground's best answers are gone. You got some Ground/Steels, none of whom are properly equipped, and Flygon. Flygon is probably your best bet with access to some Flying and Fire moves. But probably only Stunfisk has the bulk to switch in to a special Grass move.

Excadrill has coverage against Grass (Poison Jab, X-Scissor), but the real issue is that it has trouble switching in. Both it and A-Dugtrio are fairly fragile sweepers. Steelix can come in on physical Grass but melts against the more common special.
