The only stories in the main games where I truly was immersed were when you had a gang of side companions who were constantly interrupting you. Biancax Cheren, Hugh and N in Gen 5. Serena and the gang in Gen 6. Lillie, Hau, Gladion, Kukui and the Kahuna/trial captains in Gen 7. These werw the only Pokemon games where I felt empty inside after I beat them and actually missed interacting with the characters.
