I'm honestly considering this. I like the main game and all but competitive is really what I care about most and the 20hrs to beat the story compared to the 100s of hrs I'll spend battling/trying out new teams, it might not be worth it if I don't want to compete in VGC tourneys. Not to mention breeding/EV training since I am NOT hacking my switch.

It's not like you'd be missing out on much if you waited on purchasing the games until it got a price drop/went on sale/got it pre owned. It'll take a few months for the gen 8 meta to get figured out anyways and that's plenty of time to figure out how good/bad the games are and if they're worth your money or not.
