Here's the biggest "city" in the game, directly from the game's map. It's basically half the size of a Lumiose/Castelia, with a third of the buildings.

Let's be real, tpc are using the triple A series scheme of seeing how much they can cut. And no, this isn't accusing devs of being lazy, I doubt they had any say here. It's the pencil pushers up top who know nothing nor care about game development, just how much money they can milk out of fans.
In the long run this shit always breaks eventually. Hopefully Nintendo does something, if they even can.
