Yeah, Dragonite looks like a cartoony ass generic dragon. That's what you get for being the first dragon type final evo in existence, retard. Also take note of how his body has a natural center of gravity and how his legs are naturally positioned with visible ankles and such? New pokemon all have noodle appendages with no regard for physicality. Pay attention to the new designs and you'll notice how none of them feel like they're being affected by gravity or balance. Chewtle's head is so massive that it shouldn't even be able to stand up. The new Penguin mon's ice mask is as big as the rest of it's body. Larger heads is a recurring theme through the new designs. Dragonite's whole body is reasonably proportioned, just drawn in a fairy-tail esq fashion.

Dragonite was meant to be a giant friendly dragon that was just interpreted as intimidating due to his typing being the best in the game. Players were naturally afraid of a powerful Dragonite.

Onix is his foil. It looks large and intimidating, but is very frail and weak.

Except dragon was fucking trash typing until gen 2 retard. They didn't have a single STAB and Blizzard had absolutely bull shit mechanics voiding any defensive ability.

The entire point of the dratini line is that it goes from a beautiful eastern dragon to a fat goofy western dragon in its final form.

no it isn't. there was nothing stopping them from expanding on the visual cues from dratini and dragonair. they just wanted to "subvert people's expectations" with an ugly final stage that doesn't look like it belongs in the same evo line as the other two stages.

I mostly dislike Arvalis’ art, but one of his interpretations that I do think is brilliant is that the dragonite line are basically salamanders with dratini and dragonair being the tadpoles and dragonite being the metamorphosed adult. Would have posted the pic but his style honestly makes me kind of sick to look at.
