Why are Gamefreak and Pokemon company so out of sync this gen? One of the first thing you see in the Sword and Shield anime is all 3 gen 1 starters when only one is featured in the game

They really have lost touch with their audience. Whenever we'd complain about past gens it would mostly be contained within this board, a bit of Smogon and some on Reddit. However this time the normies on twitter seem extremely vocal about their anger, moreso than us even.

It's time for a change, they need to shake things up and have someone else make the calls - at this rate the mainline games will die and Pokemon will only exist on our mobiles

Because the main series games are no longer the centre piece of the series. That is unironically now Pokemon GO since it has more Pokemon.

Wrong. The Anime is an advertisement from the Pokemon brand in general. The Pokemon card game is still a thing. Pokemon Go and Pokemon Masters are still a thing. There's still tons of other spin-off games. Merchandising of Pokemon from all Generations is still a thing.

Not really. The anime is loosely based on the games but only really serves to spawn and promote merch (see the plethora of merch based on the anime rather than the games).
Furthermore, the next series of the anime is just called "Pocket Monsters" and drops subtitles entirely, it's obviously not based on Sword and Shield but rather Ash journeying around the world, which he said he wanted to do in the last episode of Sun and Moon.
