Already played my "pwotest" card with Gen III anon. Didn't make a blind bit of difference to the overall franchise and I ended up getting sucked back in with Gen IV anyway. See you next Gen when you return because you wont stay away either.

I personally don't think having to shell out for everything I listed is any better. In fact I'd argue it is worse, because the "three game" system has been a thing since the very first Generation. Gen 3 was a unique case of absolute fuck-you.

Yes. The heavy handed story was legitimately GF sniffing their own farts, not for market appeal.
All mass marketed successful games for a while now feature little to no story, all of them, be it Minecraft, Fortnite, Call of Duty Multiplayer, etc.
And previously story heavy series like 3D Zelda have shifted to a more gameplay and systems focused approach and found great success with Breath of the Wild, smashing all sales records for the franchise.
Then you have those massive budget Hollywood-esque Sony exclusive games that hit the bargain bin for 20-30 bucks a month after they release.

Generally speaking, people who give a shit about story in video games are a small minority.

there's a place for them but the problem is that Nu pokemon's story isn't unique or interesting, Sun and Moon just kinda dragged on.
Not saying the old games are novel tier or anything but it wasn't the focus like it is now and they also knew when to summarize shit.
