>>40824292Gen 1 - Nostalgia, but borderline unplayable since FRLG exist. t. Genwunner
Gen 2 - is perfect aside from some minor nitpicks about leveling and pokemon placement
Gen 3 - is a step up for graphics and quality of life, but over bearing story hinders replay value and bogs down game. FRLG are perfect remakes and replace RB entirly without adding overbearing story. Even Sevii Islands are optional
Gen 4 - Story becomes even more overbearing, compounded by SLOW~ gameplay. HGSS are perfect on paper, but added story/tutorials/requirements to advance bogs down the adventure
Gen 5 - Interesting, and traditional JRPG approach help excuse story. Great for a single play through, but not worth revisiting unless you like spamming A to get through cutscenes
Gen 6 - Uh... Megas? IDK. 3d Aspect was beginning of end for exploration and a major leap forward in 'hallway' game design. Even more story than Gen 5, but with less of an excuse to have it.
Gen 7 - Visual novels with interspersed hallways. Objectively terrible aside from a few quality of life improves like visible IV's, EV's and hatching eggs takes less than a minute in most cases.
So, I guess the last 'good' games were in gen 3. Everything after has major flaws that make the games a chore to play. Mainly the story, which started in gen 3, and how overbearing it slowly became with each generation to the point where Gen 7 is nothing but story. Gen 2 is still the sweet spot though.
