The primary problem I have with gen 8 is the ridiculous amount of mono types which have, IMO, ruined the Pokemon that have said mono types.
I'm not some sort of purist who thinks monotype pokemon can't exist or shouldn't be added, but they should be significantly less in numbers than the dual types for two important reasons.
1. (and I'll admit this sounds like a cop out) They are objectively boring. Nobody, and I mean literally nobody gets excited or prays for a Pokemon to be mono type. The first thing people do when they see a Pokemon is try to guess it's types or say the types that they hope it'll be and nobodies saying 'OMG I WANT THIS COOL PLANT TO BE MONO GRASS'
2. It cripples the Pokemon competitively. Now I know the first thing people are gonna do when they hear this is probably list of some of the few Pokemon which are monotype that are still doing quite well in the competitive scene but they're few and far between and usually have something else about them that aleviates that weakness, or they're just a type which is quite well rounded with little weaknesses, like Water types for example.
There's also the fact that monotypes in this gen have to compete with old Pokemon who share the same type as them. I don't have the full list handly but somebody yesterday showed how many mono fighting types there are returning. It was something silly like 11 of them. We have 3 fighting types in the game and if I'm not mistaken I think all 3 of them are mono fighting. The octopuss, the little shield guys and Sirfetch'd. Every single one of those could have had a dual type too and nobody would have bat an eye, the shield guys could have been part steel, the octopuss could have been part water or poison and sirfetch'd could have been part flying.
BUT THAT'S NOT ALL. These 3 mono fighting types have to compete with the likes of Machamp (who also has a gigantamax form) and Conkledurr who are almost certainly going to outclass them as per usual.
