>>40848564>Is it that the games are actually worse, or did we grow out of them?Maybe its both. One of the reason why its so exciting to play a Pokemon game was for the new Pokemon themselves. However, after the 600th Pokemon, the novelty of a new Pokemon starts to wear off. The novelty of a new generation wears off, especially as every game and every generation follows the same beat each generation. You know that there will always be three starters, that there will always be a regional rodent and bird and bug, that there will always be a bunch of box legendary and mythical, and there will always be the pseudo. So all that is left are the game. And how many people would really want to play a new Pokemon game if said Pokemon game had NO new Pokemon in it? Would it just reveal how shallow the gameplay really is? The games themselves are getting really streamlined and shallower, the regions are just parody theme park versions of some foreign country, it follows the same beat, has the same kind of story, same post-game.
Funny thing is I have been getting burnt out on Pokemon games since Generation 6. Despite all the shit it gets, I actually thought Generation 7th was a unique twist on a mainstream Pokemon game and I legitimately enjoyed it for that, but I admit that, the story of that game may not be everyone's cup of tea, and it also comes at the cost of sacrificing the other part of Pokemon that I really like, the exploration/dungeon part of it.
