sadly I can see this happening, since those were the frontline games of the new generation. I'm sure they won't make it as slow as DP though, but I do hope we have a way to get to the Distortion World.

Why would you assume that when ORAS added a fuckton of additional mons? Blaziken, Camerupt, Magcargo, Torkoal, Ninetales, Arcanine, Darmanitan, Magmar, Entei, and Ho-Oh were all available before the Elite Four without trading (just to continue the theme of Fire types). Only the first five there were there in gen 3.

Even if the games are mostly based on DP the dex will still have to be based on Platinum otherwise they are going to remove several gen 4 mons. In fact it should have to be an expanded version of the dex because Heatran, Regigigas, Cresselia, Phione, Shaymin and Arceus aren't in the dex at all.
Not that this makes it much better than a DP based dex, your only new options for a Fire type would be Rotom-Heat, Flareon, Houndoom, Magmortar and Heatran.
