The area in which you're battling affects how the battle progresses. Moves like Gear Grind or Discharge get powered up in a factory, moves like Eruption can set a forest on fire, water Pokemon thrive on the water's surface while other Pokemon flounder, etc.
And don't tell me it's too complicated because fangames can manage to pull it off.
We'll even let the player disable field effects from the menu entirely, for people that find it too complicated or people that feel it makes the game unfair or people that just want a "classic" gameplay experience.

"You can beat the game using any Pokemon you want" no fuck that. If you want to win you have to build a competent team. If the opponent is too strong then come up with a strategy. The field effects play into this: If the opponent is powered up by the field you fight them on, find a way to destroy the field or even find a way to abuse it yourself.

>Easier Training
What I mean by this is that the busywork of the game should be removed. Natures, IVs, and even EVs and movesets should be easier to optimize and change at the player's will. Now you don't need to worry about replacing Crunch with Wild Charge because you'll be able to switch back easily instead of having to beat the next six gyms to find the move relearner. If you decide you want a fast and powerful Arcanine instead of a slow and bulky one, you should be able to change that without having to catch or breed a whole new one and train it from scratch.

I personally don't care about the dex cut at all, but it's clearly a divisive decision that's easily reverted.

yes. they are obviously planning on running the franchise for as long as possible, probably forever. expect each generation onward to feature only a certain percentage total of all pokemon that exist, with every generation rotating out certain pokemon. game freak is too fucking lazy to incorporate them all in one game, as you can tell Niantic seemingly is having 0 problems incorporating every pokemon into GO, which will eventually include every pokemon, arguably making it the definitive pokemon collector's game. kind of shitty for people like me with a living pokedex but w/e

The OP said it had to be accessible to casuals, so I'd say the 'finish with whoever you want' is inferred
3/5 a bit too ambitious but good ideas, the field one is good

As for me
>Large region with 500/600 Pokemon + transfers
>14 gyms each of a different type + Elite 4
>Can challenge them in any order, their levels and team scale from level 10 to level 75 depending on when you fight them
>Elite 4 are all lv 80 and champ is 85
>Champion is the Player Character you didn't choose with the starter super effective to yours and a good team
>Like XY you get your new starter and after the first gym, you're given a second starter from either of the other regions to round out your team

Go back to the Japan regions. A mix between Kanto and Johto with more areas to the north. Actually flesh these areas out so they're more like a real-world and not a minecraft map. Add in Pokemon from other gens and place them so they fit in the world naturally. Have regular forms of new evos. Like a regular Farfetch'd more similar to his beta design or a regular Obstagoon. Have lots of little nooks and crannies to explore and discover secrets. Doesn't have to be open world but should let you make some choices like order of 1 or 2 gyms or take a harder route. Day, night and weekly events are back plus bring back seasons to make it more like a real world.

For gameplay mechanics: No gimmicks. Instead focus on more ways to actually further the gameplay. Like giving more options to the player and adding like certain moves can combo together for different effects. Nothing too drastic but feels like it could still work. Throw in nice little details and some fun minigames/postgame and you've got the perfect Pokemon game for me.

First, I'd split the game in two.
There'd be two Pokemon lines. The mainline, and the arena battler line. The Arena Battler, you'd transfer your pokemon from the mainline games to, through a revamped pokemon managing service, like Pokemon Home, except not shit. It would have a standard battle emulator, but more importantly, be a tactical rpg that you transfer your pokemon into, something like X-Com, with elaborate fields with variable terrain, elevation, line of sight, and so on. Every pokemon in the game would get things like move ranges with various terrain aptitudes, climb and jump values, assorted traversal abilities tied to the species, moves, and abilities, and so on. Nearly every move in the game gets a vast retool to include range and elevation restrictions, as well as utility functions.
EVS wouldn't transfer in the standard way, they'd instead form a pool of exp/points that you could spend on various traits, quirks, buffs, or abilities on a per-pokemon basis. You can save presets, and there's no limit on resetting or making new builds. There'd be a handful of basic trees, two tied to nature, one for +stat, and one for -stat, and each pokemon would qualify for a few on a species basis, with some pokemon maybe having unique trees.

The mainline games would play much the way they currently do, except with revamped visals and animations, and more traditional RPG elements, including elaborate boss battles with multiple stages. Legendaries, for example, would never be caught the traditional way; instead, they'd always be a boss battle, that you just got the legendary at the end of.

At the start of every game, there'd be a modern Dragon Quest-style menu that lets you do things like choose the difficulty, impose various challenges and limitations, alter values for XP gain, instate plot-based caps, and so on. This menu would be freely accessible once you reach a set point in postgame, so you can crank up that XP gain to 10000% if you want.

Forgot to mention, one option would switch the full game over to double battles. Bosses wouldn't get allies, they'd just get stronger to compensate for the 2-on-1

Every 8 months release an expansion that adds new pokes 80 every expansion until we have guild wars 2 size numbers of concurrent players and create a new standalone game that can be paired with "pokemon world" and make it a Pokemon battle royalle everybody drops in with 10 pokeballs whatever you can catch in 3 minutes is what you battle with. Every person you run into you have to battle. If you win you get their pokes if you lose congrats

The main goal is to divert ALL resources from the shit show of a story they keep trying to include, and stop with cutscenes. Just a fairly linear set up of "get X number of badges' You don't even set up a predetermined route for gyms, just have it so you beat one, then all the other gyms in the region get a bump of 5 levels. It wouldn't be too hard to put in something like that and have the game get harder as you get stronger. Have trainer levels set to the +1 or 2 of your strongest pokemon.

As far as story elements, put in little side quests. Like in Gold you had to get the secret medicine before you could fix the lighthouse and then challenge the gym. Just give each town something small and self contained like that.

Next, make a big fucking map. Tons of routes, caves, oceans, forests, ect. Just lots of room to explore and lots of hidden items and trainers around. Make the game feel like an adventure.

Then personally, I'd love to see the region above Johto and Kanto. You can get your pandering, but still include new material.

You start the game in a region with water to the north and west, and mountains south and east. There are only 4 gyms, and 30 new pokemon. It takes you up to level 30 and is basically the introduction for casuals. Then you travel south behind the mountains and you're in Johto. It gets the '3 years in the future' treatment and takes you through level 55 or so. You expand on the towns and map, really bulk it up. Then go east to KANTO~ but it's 3 years past where it was Gold and Silver. So fuck it up even more. This takes you to level 70 or so. Then the Elite four go up to 80.

Then here's the real kicker, after you beat the elite four and proven your strong, you get permission to see the region above Kanto, which is unexplored. Has settlements instead of towns. This is where you see the next 20 new pokemon, and they're all level 70 or higher. Trainers are level 80+.

Yeah, that'd be cool

It really is that basic to create a good game. That said, the biggest new addition I'd make would probably be

That's something I've always wanted to. Always thought it'd be cool if you could link up to your previous game in some way, and have your profile transfer up to the new game. Of course, you can't transfer your team up just yet because of some kind of 'immigration rule' or something, and need to beat the elite four to gain permission. But yeah, keep the same name, trainer ID, maybe a few extra point on your trainer card, a few NPC references as if you're a celebrity, that kind of thing.

After the first battle the professor asks if this is your first time battling, you have the option to set up normal and hard mode here depending on your answer, hard mode skips basic tutorials and have important battles to be at set levels and with limited item uses for both trainers, something like this was what I was expecting stadium battles to be in Galar to be honest

For me, the big issues with the series now is that it doesn't make you earn things, there's no sense of mystery anymore and the game tries to railroad you into following its main storyline. Most of the game's formula is pretty much just right as it is, so all you need to do is expand on its core gameplay.
