>>40879159The whole point about Pokemon is the world and the Pokemon themselves. While the games are important, as they are the gateway for the designs to be loved by the people that play it/watch someone else play it, they aren't the biggest selling point of the "franchise". Hell, even the humans have become part of the "biggest selling point", since some of them are either iconic, have a good design (looks, personality or both), waifu/husbando bait, or a mix of them.
I do think the games are a necessity, though. It has become a staple that, with each new generation games, there's new designs to look up to. They need to be good enough. They are also a big part into shaping the world where the monsters live, how they interact with such universe, etc.
All in all, I'd say I would never agree that they should stop making new Pokemon. Make less of them? Yes. The lowish amount we've been getting since Gen VI is good enough, GF just fucked up by trying to step up to the new standards the industry has to quickly, and having to do yearly releases didn't help their case.
I'd say that, even if starting a generation with a fuck-up is bad, they will be better prepared in the next generation
if it happens to affront having to do "bigger games" (size, graphics, playtime, etc) than what they were used to. Stepping into 3D is clearly a zone of discomfort that they are (very) slowly getting the hang on.
Granted, they do need to lose the stupid mindset that everyone has ADHD or are too braindead to sink hours and hours into a game 'till completion. Mobile is just part of the competition, not the future of the whole industry. The more hours you make the players spend in the game, the more attached they get, if there's good reasons for them to do so.
