This is a lie, some retard in a podcast mentioned not knowing shit and everyone ate it up (including Joe "muh disinformation" Merric) until someone disproved it by showing that the "new models cus engine" was a miss translation by google translate.

All of the models have been recycled from the 3DS since XY, the only thing they changed from USUM to Lets Go were the that textures were slightly improved to fit the new resolution, but the only big texture changes were made to Pikachu and Eevee

GameFreak isn't a modern company and wasn't designed with modern workflow in mind. Not to mention most of the execs have their senior supervisor positions through experience in GameFreak itself, meaning they're just amateurs with 20+ experience being an amateur.

I'll maintain that this is a company held back by the obligation to render 3D models. 90% of the appeal of the new Pokemon games are visuals, which is stupid when your core designs are cartoon animals.

We already know models are 1:1, you can look at the fucking same edges on the side of any Dynamax footage.
And even if they weren't, and looked slightly better, they could just be using previously unreleased Lod0 versions of the models we already had, that had to mandatorily be made back in gen 6.

It's still a model, mesh refers to the matrix of interconnected polygons that make up the model. Untextured models are a thing. What's more, if they're using Obj format, it should be easy as cake to bring over onto the switch, they'll even have the uv map data encoded, so the only thing they'd have to do is make new textures, which I doubt requires much work since pokemon textures are mostly solid blocks of color and some linework

That’s misinfo, the multiple Lillie thing was done in order to cut down on load times between areas. It takes up more space but the cartridge was large enough to handle it so they didn’t care.

Sword and Shield is a new engine and they only programmed in the regional dex along with a couple secret Pokemon since there really isn't a way to get the others and won't be for a while.

By the time Home is implemented they will have already started work on Sinnoh remakes or a 3rd version and won't have the time to backport the newer models. Not that they've done that ever.

The load times aren't impacted by this at all. And it would have been trivial to just keep an instance's assets in memory if the model has shared instances between scenes. Unity and Unreal both do this optimization WITHOUT EVEN ASKING YOU TO because it is something called fucking INDUSTRY STANDARD.

No. It's the same model. I know you're just trying to rile people up with the model=texture thing but you're wrong. I even asked my lecturer this who's had 20 years in the industry this question, and he's stated a texture is something you apply to a model, they're not synonymous. You're using language to fuck with people, end of story. The only reasonable argument you have is the point on normal mapping, but if creatures inc could model, animate and texture 700+ pokemon between 2010 and 2013, they should have had no problem in just making new texture maps for 900. I reiterate, pokemon's albedo maps are relatively simplistic, they could have even traced the low res ones if they wanted. If they had foresight I would argue they should have made the high res maps is 2013, and down-scaled them for the 3ds.

To be fair, Poke Camp does have new animations for holding objects, and 400 Pokemon is no daunting task. However it's also not enough of an excuse when 90% of what you see there is rehashed.

The models made by Creatures are actually so future-proof that there wouldn't even be a need to completely re-texture them from scratch, let alone remake. Just trace them and bring them to the new engine's standard as-is. Fix whatever issues arise in post and there.

TPC even gave them every opportunity this time so merch and shit isn't an excuse even if it were (it's not - games only need be in development as seen in EVER OTHER GEN to merchandize them).

NOTHING is an excuse when YOU are in control of the deadline and as produicer and board member of Game Freak Masuda 100% is.

But by his own admission both in a 2014 interview and in the dexit announcement this is to make it easy to rush games out and nothing more regardless of actual quality.

Looking at the lighting engine in swsh, the only thing new that would have to be made then would probably be a shadow mask for the rim lighting they use. Usually in toon shaders when you turn on rim lighting, everything towards the edge of the model is highlighted, but in swsh, any part of the model in shadow lacks rim lighting. So thy probably would have had to have mapped that mask

Let's Go only has new textures with shading and other details to add a little more style but that's not to say that isn't a task of it's own.
Scorbunny, Sobble AND Grookey have around the same number of tris as the general Pokémon models have had ever since XY (so around 8 thousand) along with having modelled mouths that can be animated differently from textures like a lot of mons have.

Engine doesn't dictate why kind of assets you can load into it, anyone that thinks this is actually fucking retarded and doesn't understand how software works even at a basic fucking level. You don't have to re-author any fucking assets to use in ANY engine you literally just need to write whatever fucking function you need to parse the data and load it into the game. This is true of 3D models and 2D assets like textures.

They didn't remake shit. They took the old models and tweaked them a bit. All the models look 99-100% the same. There's no way you independently reach the exact same thing. The textures are also almost the same with some minor tweaks for a couple of Pokemon. They probably had a small list of Pokemon that needed fixing. The rest is 100% the same. The biggest difference is lighting and shading.

If Game Freak is as dumb as Squeenix was back in the PS1 days, then a lot of past work likely gets thrown away when the work is done because "lul we don't need it anymore since this game won't be need to be made again", and they don't even bother to archive/save much of anything because of weird old Japanese mentalities.

Trust me, Squeenix went full retard doing this with FF7, 8 and 9, and is the reason we never got a true PC port of FF9 even now iirc. Jap companies are giant autists at times in the worst ways and don't see any of what they are doing as wrong.

Otherwise they're stored in the memory and there's plenty of space to go around for that
And since you'll never see more than nine models (four trainers, five pokes for raids) on your screen at any given time in a system that isn't even real time but turn based, I don't see how there's an issue at all

The idea that you need new models because of a new game engine is just wrong to anyone that knows basic 3D modelling. The models themselves are made in 3D modelling software such as maya, 3ds max, blender, and can simply be exported into the model file type of your choosing, all of which are standardized within the industry. It’s really no different than having a photoshop file and saving to whatever image format you want.

Also they are using the same models. Models are made up of vertices, points within 3D space, which when joined form edges and faces. These are what you’d call polygons, and you can quite easily see that the topology of the models are the same as they were in Sun/Moon. All the vertices, edges and faces line up exactly. The polygon counts seem exactly the same.

From what I understand about how 3D modeling works, the problem seems to be that Game Freak has been changing engines a lot recently, and while the models are always usable and textures shouldn't be much work, they have to make sure the animations don't fuck up because animations don't transfer between engines easily. I'd consider this to be a lack of planning, personally, but I don't know enough about video games to say for sure. It's still probably not that hard if they or Creatures Inc. had the staff and time to deal with it, but TPC demands new games so they can sell new product to impatient consumers. Got to sell those pushes and shit, and if anything stays on the shelf longer than a month it's a fucking failure.

I'd like to point out every other director already had a completed engine and game to work off of. Of them, Morimoto has the best track record with adding shit, and Unno is just an overachiever really. The rest are just salvage jobs, which does explain a lot, since I really think Platinum and USUM are pretty similar in terms of content, give or take 3/5ths of a Battle Frontier and a Sonic 2 special stage.
