A lot of the Plasma people were definitely shitty from the start, yyeah. I agree, though, that just makes them even more complex and intriguing. It's a great example of a three-dimensional antagonist.

Agree on X & Y, too. They really could have become a benchmark in their own right, but the rewriting resulted in a lack of cohesion, and I think at that point, it was a miracle we ended up with anything resembling a plot (even if the resemblance is slim). If what's said about the scrapped plot is true, it might have been weird in an awesome way.
Too bad they didn't at least build on the threads they did have with a Z version, it was probably the pair that needed a director's cut the most.
