Story sounds pretty cool for Pokemon standards: Bede is an angry orphan that receives his first Pokemon from Chairman Rose and aspires to be champion, but ends up destroying a museum and doing other fucked up shit and gets disqualified from the Pokemon League. However, later on he's trained by Opal and becomes her successor as the new fairy type gym.
Marnie comes from a town suffering from severe poverty due to lack of industrialization, she wants to be champion and use the resources to help her town. Her brother is the gym leader of that town, he's dark type, but he wants to pursue his career as a rock star and leave the gym to his sister. He also gave her her Morpeko.
Chairman Rose wants to wake up Eternatus to use it as an infinite source of energy to power all of Galar forever, he's assisted by Leon and Oleanna, but Chairman Rose decides to interrupt the Pokemon League Tournament to awaken Eternatus (Leon is opposed to interrupting the league, but is not opposed to waking up Eternatus). Eternatus is an evil pokemon and is unable to be controlled by Chairman Rose, you and Hop go on to defeat Eternatus with the help of Zacian and Zamazenta (He gets the dog legendary opposite to your version and becomes part of his team later on). You can catch Eternatus then or later.
The Pokeon league no longer has an Elite 4, it's a tournament style match where you face off your rivals, a few of the gym leaders and other trainers before facing Leon.
The legendary dogs are the true heroes of Galar and defeated Eternatus before many many years ago, but the Galar royals stole all the credit and propped themselves as the heroes.
