Speaking as somebody who plays the game competitively, it's hard to say.
On one hand, it sold pretty well, getting 1.3m sales after 9 months on WiiU and selling the same amount in less time for Switch, so likely around 3m or so sales total; and it's grand finals at worlds seriews events tends to get a good amount of views, as much or more then VGC and TCG.
On the other hand, the overall state of spinoffs is sort of up in the air, and while it sold good and does get views on youtube for those events, it didn't sell amazing and doesn't get much social media buzz in general; and it flew under the radar for most people. Moreover, a huge part of WHY it didn't get huge has a lot to do with TPCI's poor marketing and support, so they may not care much about it to begin with.
I'm not getting my hopes up, but it's possible.
>>40885101>FGC demeans it similar to Smash. This would be solvable with the right marketing and support push, the issue is TPCI and Nintendo marketing it as if it were a casual arena fighter
>>40885227As a competitive fighting game? Yes. It's very well balanced, there's a lkarge amount of variety in playstyles of the cast, many characters have unique mechanics, etc; and it's got a really strong focus on neutral play, fundamentals, and adaption, with unique mechanics that encourage those things in ways other fighting games don't.
If you want a game to git gud at or to grind online every day or every few days; especially if you can also attend local events, then I reccomend it, but like all fighting games you get out of it what you put in, the fun and replay value comes from self improvement and you need to make an effort to practice, learn matchups, etc. It's very approachable for a fighting game, but that's still very much the case.
In any case, if you wanna get into it, you should at least lurk
