My relationship with the Shard has been so weird.
It was constructed shortly after I moved to London. When I was applying to uni here and viewing places to live I kept passing it like every day under construction. For those that don't know the Shard is constructed almost directly over London Bridge station, which is very prolific and probably the second or third busiest in the country.
Everywhere I've lived in London (5+ places) has had the Shard in view of my window. Still, most of us here don't particularly like it. It's not exciting or cool, but it's not bad either. It's just there. It's cool to look up at from below but it doesn't change the fact that life is still a huge pain.
And now there's a Pokémon of it, of all things. I feel kind of numb. This monolith, this weird modern symbol of a city I'm rapidly growing to dislike is going to be viewed as the inspiration for a shitty Japanese cartoon character in a franchise I used to love.
