>>40900929The question is wrong. The correct answer is to combine all the best parts of each gen. That's what people should argue over. What features were the greatest features Pokemon games have ever had? Let's make a list.
Gen V had a brand new dex, entirely. It also had a Challenge Mode. Thank God. Too bad it's vanished forever now and you had to beat easy mode to unlock it.
Gen IV had followers and decent gym/E4 rematches.
Gen III had battle factory and battle pike, along with the tower. The rest you could take it or leave it but the addition of random debuffs or just random pokemon teams is key for replayability.
Only some games had contests and Berry farming and processing. I'll include Honey Trees and Grottos here as well, take it or leave it..
Gen VI had megas though some were questionable. A lot of weaker pokemon should all get megas to create a more balanced National Dex. The alternative they used instead was Z-Moves which doesn't actually solve much and is a cop out to continuing to design Megas.
The National Dex itself is of course required for hardcore collection players. Gen VIII fails here.
The DexNav is the best hunting tool they ever made. The ones before it really sucked. Adrenaline Orb is just very meh.
I'm not a super breeder so they probably know the best breeding setup we've ever had.
The rest is little things like the Movie Star setting in B2/W2 which I really liked. Little side quests like that in various games.
Unless I missed some things. One thing they've never had is a hard level cap until you surpass the next Gym. A true Challenge Mode should have this for sure.
Oh yeah, and HM's can suck my dick.
