bros im trying so hard to love this generation. im trying to love all the pokemon you love, the jet lizard, the rocker frog, the ice moth... but its so hard.

Just try some other games. I'm fucking miserable this year and between the SwSh disaster and hating FE Three Houses I lost 2 of my favorites series that were helping me look forward to things.

Thankfully Luigi's Mansion is good, but it's short won't last long, so next up isn't until Animal Crossing in March.

I'm at the same point. It's so hard to think about what we could have, about what other timelines have...
The worst is probably when sometime you start to imagine what it could have been if Pokemon turned into an openworld with all pokemons having soul animations in the nature, and start RPG battle when you engage the combat with them. Ridding them in the wild and the cities, maybe in online multiplayer with friends, having to travel specificals area to find certain pokemons and all.

Other times, I also imagine a future gen where GF decides to go back to the soul source with 2D graphics like DPP/BW/B2W2 because they are way better at doing theses..

But we will never have this. They will stick to the moneygrab style with shit 3D, souless animations for pokemons, cut more and more content, and ""fans"" will continue to buy day one.

What a lame timeline for pokemon. I share your feelings anon.

these arw home console games but still look like Pokemon is in the 3DS era. its nowhere near better, if anything its worse because they cut Pokemon while promising that it was to improve other things like graphics, animations, and postgame. then, they didn't improve any of that shit and the only improvements made were slight QoL features to make competitive more accessible. its a fucking pathetic excuse for a first home console game.

Also, I downloaded Luigi Mansion 3 last day, and this is even more depressing to see how much soul this game has compared to SwSh. I'm a 3D animator and worked with Gamedevs, I can't even think about how much work it must have takes to do all theses Luigi and other characters animations. Everything in this game is just what we expect for a LuigiMansion game but in better. And then you look at SwSh and you see how bad theses games are...

Far is the time we saw some true soulfull things like this in the pokemon franchise desu...

You just need to like some of them, you can't use the entire Dex on your playthrough anyway.

I recommend getting some hacked console or emulator, so you can try as many new things as possible without costing much.
I used to be a pokémaniac and only have a few other hobbies, but since I got a flashcard my interests greatly expanded.

gen 4 was probably the most fun i've had with videogames, ever. But as time has gone by, the mons have been getting more and more obscure, having a hidden gem here and there.

but this time it's about company policies, and i try not to sound like an entitled piece of shit here, but i feel a bit betrayed as someone who have played the games for 21 years.
They're cutting corners by not including a full national dex, and that's fucking it. They don't improve on anything as stated, they're just literally cutting corners.

This. While this is probably my least-liked new set of Pokemon yet, I'd still probably play and enjoy the game if everything else wasn't so shit. They ripped out so much this time and we got nothing of value in return. Curry? Dynamax that's worse than megas? An ugly-ass wild area to roam around? Still no post game? The saved effort by not porting the full dex went absolutely nowhere else. And that'll be $60 plus tip this time instead of 40.

it depends on the animation, like everything. In Animation, you can take 10 minuts to animate a full 3min idle animation, but you also can take three days to animate 10 seconds of a battle animation.
The whole thing depends on how many animator are working on how many pokemons. If there is 50 pro animators at GF, every worker would animate ~17 pokemons for a ~850 dex. If all the animations for a single pokemon takes ~30 days to finish (at max), it would take ~a year and 2month to finish all the dex. Then maybe one or two more years for all the other models and animations and all so ~3,5years for a really good SwSh with all new animations and models.

Honestly, a really huge openworld project with pokemon in the wild would take easely 5 to 9 years to dev properly. but the output would for sure worth the wait.
