The sprites are bad because they look different from the official art.
The 3D model is how venuasuar was always meant to look.

Its pretty lame to pull up a pokemon, see all its different sprites, then see the variety drop off a fucking cliff at XY. Look how they massacred my boy, 3D was a fucking mistake.

Man I kinda like that first sprite, where the monster part became a lowly slurking belly-dragger and the plant part popped up and flourished, being to biggest emphasis and spotlight of the design. Would have been more interesting, is there any fanart of it like this?
