>Satoshi and Go have become research fellows at the Sakuragi Laboratories in Kuchiba City, Kanto. Their first job is to investigate a mysterious march of Fushigisou in the city. They immediately go to the city, where they see that the Fushigisou are all headed towards a certain location. >Satoshi and Go have heard there's a phenomenon in the Galar region that causes Pokémon to grow to gigantic sizes. The two of them immediately head there in order to investigate this phenomenon. The franchise always seemed (maybe it didn't, but at least SEEMED) to strike a balance between the collectible "Monsters in my Pocket" USP and the lore idea that Pokemon are mysterious, powerful creatures that people never really control. But the balance seems to have shifted recently. They've started pulling a lot of the Japanese influence to make it more international.

For most of its run every episode had to involve the characters earning a Happy Star by helping a random human, which then had to be registered with about a minute or more of stock footage every episode. There were also a large number of 'new Cocotama explores Cocotama Town' episodes and a similarly large number of Tuxy and Dressy (basically the Jessie and James of Cocotama) episodes. It wouldn't have been so bad if Himitsu no Cocotama hadn't been so much better with its greater episode plot variety and wide cast of recurring humans all with their own personalities and goals. Probably the best way to put it was that Himitsu felt like a show for kids written so parents could also enjoy it whereas Hirake said, "fuck the parents, sell the toys," and made a show purely for kiddies.
Since the Cocotama franchise is now basically comatose barely a year after Hirake started it's pretty telling that the target audience didn't like it much either, although the Hirake toys being lower quality and incompatible with the Himitsu toys probably helped kill it.
