I like the tournament side but I still wish we had a proper elite four and it was more like the anime. I'd have a bunch of trainers with strong pokemon in their 60/70, you can't use healing items but you still gain exp and winning gives u the chance to fight the elite 4 and the champion who should have at least one level 100. Ofc it would only work if GayFreak brought back every pokemon so we don't see the same shit over and over again but they probably won't and would deem this "too hard" for our small brains.

The story tournament is half-scripted. You battle 2 Gym Leaders, Marnie in semi-finals, Bede interrupts the finals and Hop in finals. Afterwards you just battle 5 random characters between the Gym Leaders, Hop, Leon, Marnie and Bede.

Now, I don't know what happens post game, but after the tour you could maybe challenge the region E4 and champion, with stronger mons like >>40920113 suggested. GF doesn't how to make cool things anymore though.

Im interested in this tournament format since it makes more sense, i never liked the e4 since they seemed shoehorned in last minute.
A tournament with trainers you have battles with throughout the game is way better but im sure this game will fuck it up somehow and disappoint me further.

Because the E4 always made no sense anyway. How are they selected? Why don't they try to become champion? Why does beating the champion make you the champion, but beating an E4 member not make you a member of the E4? A tournament held between the gym leaders interested in becoming champion not only makes more sense but is also better from a narrative standpoint since you're already familiar with the gym leaders. Most of the time the E4 are just a bunch of randos who spend their entire lives in overly-intricate rooms that match their type specialty waiting to be battled. Even if they old format ends up being better, at least they're trying something different.
