Like compare him to Yokai, he has a pretty similar concept to them.

I'm not talking about the designs, I'm talking about things like the Rotom Dex being a blatant attempt to emulate the ghost dude from Yo-Kai Watch and other similar things those games did.

We're at that point that anything can be a Pokémon.

Gen 9 will probably look even less Pokémon, and might go to the TemTem, Spectrobes or Yokai route.

With the dex cut, they can get away with doing less traditional Pokémon designs since they can cut them next game.

For example look at Eiscue, Farlinks or the Monolith Pokemon, those things wouldn't have been aprovedin Gen 1-7.

true that, but they're nowhere near other pokemon designs. Of course you can cherrypick awful mons from older gens but they at least had majority good designs
