No. They switched to 3D because 3D becomes infinitely more efficient than 2D the more you need to do with the Pokemon. If they kept 2D they would have started fucking cutting Pokemon by Gen 6.

Do you understand how time consuming animating sprites to the same extent of the 3D models is? In BW they already had to reuse a fuckton of sprites as a crutch, imagine having to redo all of that work from scratch every time you need to up the resolution of the sprites and do things like making separate animations for front and back views.

People didn't complain as much as they are complaining now about gen 7. Gen 6 got basically no complains at all at the release, except from the vey few that didn't like the 3D transition. It's the first time even normalfags are complaining about the games.

They didn't reuse shit as a crutch, they reuse shit because they can, the same way you reuse 3D models, the difference is that making 2D sprites is way easier than making a 3D model.

It's reusing meshes, UVs and animations.

Texture is not a part of the model, you can swap a texture with a screenshot of this comment and it will wrap around the mesh because the UVs have the information of which part of the texture goes where.

A texture swap is very VERY easy to do. In fact, the difficult thing is the UV mapping which they have already done back in 2013 or so

Textures are part of a model tho, but it's not entirely necessary to have one to call it a model, because there's usually more than just a mesh in the file. That's why you can still call a textureless model a model. Anyone claiming that they aren't reusing models is full of shit and doesn't know how things work.

Pokemon's playerbase has consisted mainly of new kids entering into the franchise and longtime fans in roughly equal measure for some time now. Their sales have remained almost perfectly consistent since Gen 3 because, like you said, the new batch of kids would replace people who, for whatever reason, lost interest.

If GF pisses off a substantial portion of their hardcore fanbase in one fell swoop (which seems to be happening here), that equilibrium will be disrupted and Pokemon will see a net loss in sales. It's not like a larger batch of kids will magically spring up and become interested in Pokemon.

What are you talking about? TPC is a joint venue and basically only manages and licenses the Pokemon brand, GameFreak owns most of it (assuming 34%+, since Nintendo owns 32% and Creatures certainly doesn't hold the majority share). The only thing TPC does at all is produce/license merchandise and media.

A model is multiple assets put together. We're talking about those models in the game. The game isn't using only meshes.

Surprisingly, I'm not that guy but I'm in the same boat
I have a Squirtle, Gave him an everstone in LeafGreen and finished everything with just him and Pikachu, It actually makes the game harder
While I transferred the little guy I hacked my Platinum and Again, started with Squirtle and Pikachu, they're both my favorite Pokemon, so I roll with them every gen

There are monster catching games on the PS2 with 1000+ monster designs AND a good campaign AND good postgame. There is no reason the games which have VASTLY IMPROVED technology couldn't hold that many Pokémon.
