I think the larger reasoning for Dexit, not to be an apologist, is because they really are future proofing the series. Dex cut was going to come eventually, the release schedule isn't sustainable if the trajectory keeps going.

They don't have HD assets yet. But eventually they'll have to have them, and given that this is their first "HD" release, it's the best opportunity they have to start precedence. Maybe they assumed people would accept it while they buy time for another generation or two, when models are actually remade. But releasing the first games on the Switch with everyone, and then releasing another set of mainline games 3 years down the line with the dex cut is a harder pill to swallow than 3DS -> Switch initially having the dex cut. Or, at least they hoped.

The issue is they should have already had the HD assets now, but we know GF can't actually into 3D so it probably was harder than they thought. "Please understand."

Not a GF apologist, just trying to think of why they didn't port over everyone now when they clearly could have since assets are still recycled.
