He said that last year cut him some slack. They probably decided to cut when they realized it wouldn't be done by Christmas 2019 and used balance and graphics as the excuse.

Honestly this. With all the spin-offs and merch and other media, there's more than enough revenue to go around in off-years. Just make it 4 years between generations again and release, like, one game in the meantime and everyone will be better off.
