Who says it was specifically post-game? Who says it was ALL of the post-game? According to Game Informer and their notes they got from their interview with Game Freak, Iwata didn't even work on the Japanese version GS, but the localization.

I never said specifically. It is logic. GF was having problems fitting the game in a cart. If Iwata hadn't showed up, what the fuck do you think it would've happened? GF would've given us less game, they would've had to make cuts. Without Iwata's program Kanto wouldn't be in the game because they would've had to remove stuff to put it in the cart, genius.

Without compression, they would've had to remove content to fit the game in the cart. Without compressing SOMETHING (it doesn't matter what, text or the fucking grass) the game would've been shorter because there was NO ROOM. This ain't rocket science.

Actually it should be fairly easy to tell. HAL Labs used the same graphics compression for all their NES, SNES, and GameBoy games. Iwata started at HAL before rising the ranks to become Nintendo's President. Since you clearly know a lot about this sort of thing, you can check the graphics compression for GS, see if it's close in any way.

Model is on-hand for easier access, so to speak. Every area has its own Lillie model so that instead of going to some other place on the disk to retrieve that model, you can just immediately grab the one nearby. It also frees up your RAM since you don't have a single model constantly loaded in memory. Or something like that.

Just as an example, every Pokemon Center map on the Gold/Silver beta has a unique 2F despite being the exact same map. In the full game, the 2F is known internally as "SPECIAL". SPECIAL is off the map of Gold/Silver and the player goes there instead of the 2F of any Pokemon Center. The location takes the name of the previous place that the player visited when going there in order to keep the illusion. It does so both in case the player checks the Pokegear or if an egg is hatched.

Assuming they kept this in until Iwata got there, this would have saved a bit of maps just by something most computer programmers learn in their Junior year of college.
