Gamefreak actually realize their vision of the main games being a more single player RPG adventure with minimum social interactions with other players while Home is the defacto multiplayer hub with the Ranked battles, GTS, and more being all moved there. The actual divorce of Pokemon's core aspects into an additional game that requires a sub each year will force their hand to actually listen to criticism of the mainline games because if you are charging 60 bucks for an actual single player RPG in 2020 you betternhave the content and quality to back that up.

I disagree about the death thing obvi but this is about what I was going to write. Especially the Pokémon to scale thing. Seeing a tiny Tyranitar next to your trainer is so dumb

They use gen 9 to tie up the loose plotlines for Gen 6 and 7 and retcon gen 8 to have more continuity with Kalos.
Elaborate on AZ, Zygarde, and the Kalos War.
Have some revelation with Looker and the ultra beasts, clearly defining the universes as we know them between classic, advanced, and 3D/Mega eras
Keep Let's Go as a side series and use that as a basis for remakes because while barebones it was still comfy and resources should go to the main main series

Nintendo steps in and pushes Masuda and other figure heads at Game Freak into the background to just being a reference for general questions while they specialize on one aspect of the game they actually do well (like music) This has a Sakurai effect, similar to when Sakurai was ruining smash but once he took a backseat to more parts and didn’t make every fucking decision the series started rebounding and eventually got to the best it’s ever been.
