This. Many mons I run are incredibly slow, so I use various methods to pull things more to my favor. On one team used a Palossand with Lagging Tail and Trick. You can completely disable one of your opponent's team members for the remainder of the match.

How is rivalry categorized as "niche uses" and not "ability with trade-offs"? Also what exactly about golisopod does emergency exit balance? it wouldn't be broken by any means without it

Not the guy, but Unaware can backfire. It ignores all stat changes - including drops. So Unaware mons can't benefit from Intimidate and the like.

Yeah, I agree that Emergency Exit wasn't meant to be a "balancing" ability that really strong non-legendary mons seem to get. Schooling is a much better example of that.
Golisopod was meant to be a Mon that switches in and out of battle. First Impression synergy, and all that.

Corrosion apparently will cause salazzle to poison itself if it holds a toxic orb or poison barb. Unaware makes you take/deal normal damage even in situations in which it wouldn't be in your best interest, like if your foe has been intimidated, or its defenses dropped by something like seed flare or acid spray; you still take/deal normal damage. Prankster straight up can't touch dark type pokemon with any status move as of gen 7.

Unfortunately Emergency Exit doesn't even work like that. The user is forced to switch out as soon as the ability is triggered, rather than at the end of the turn. So if Golisopod takes hazard damage or is hit by a move that brings it into Emergency Exit range, it won't even have time to use First Impression before it's BTFO'd. It's one of the most crippling abilities in the game.

Oh, I agree it's bad. Gamefreak can sometimes seem like they don't even play their own game. But you can sometimes see the intention behind things even if the execution is retarded.
I think Golisopod is more intentionally designed towards doubles, which is why they probably have it switch out immediately rather than doing the same thing for singles and have it switch at the end of the turn.
If they wanted to make this work, the should have given Emergency Exit a Regenerator side-effect. That and the edit you suggest could have made this work better.

>Emergency Exit/Wimp Out
When the Pokemon re-enters the battle, it comes with exactly 50% of its HP. If it's the last Pokemon or it cannot switch, it gets a speed boost.
