It hasn't been like that since XY.
Digimon, on the other hand, makes better games (and currenly has no proper anime except for random nostalgia cash grab Taichi-Agumon movies. Not like that's a bad thing, though).

Yeah one small emtpy section with nothing but ugly lasers and the rest of the region is another bunch of corridors just like SM

everyone still looks the same just with different haircuts and clothes, still not a huge step up in terms of creating your own trainer

which can only evolve in Galar instead of being a normal cross gen evo because muh gimmicks

Another generic humanoid furtrash fire stater added to the pile, monotype on top of that if that wasn't boring enough

Yeah that's the bare minimum considering they had those animations running around since 2016 and yet no returning following or riding Pokemon no you have to go around with a boring bike dressed up as a clown instead
