Even before the harassment started, everyone who didn't blindly support the next game was being called toxic. By putting a name out there (Game Freak, TPC, Masuda, Ohmori, Turner), you create a target. I have no idea who is actually responsible for the direction the franchise has been going in, but Masuda is the producer and director of LGPE and Ohmori was the director of ORAS, SM, and SS so it's safe to say they have SOME responsibility. A company's goal is to make money, but at what cost to the consumer? If they're doing new Gens every three years, they're making more money, but we're getting lesser games. If they turn third versions into paired games, they're making more money, but we're not getting a definitive product like Platinum or Emerald. By making all side games mobile and filling them with microtransactions, they're making more money, but we're getting mobile game depth and content instead of the spin-offs we got like Ranger, Mystery Dungeon, and Conquest. Do you know why Detective Pikachu is alive? Because it was a Hollywood movie. Do you know why Pokkén is (sort of) alive? Because it's a port of a port of an arcade game.
I am not happy with the direction the franchise is going in and feedback has been ignored so often because people who don't care about anything I like buy the games anyway and they sell 15 million copies. It's depressing. I don't see any end in sight and everyone who is upset right now knows that if they don't say anything now, there won't be a later for us. We have to keep lowering our standards more and more and paying more and more and that isn't the future any of us want.
