Heavy discount on black friday last year. 30 bucks. Had no other games to play at the time. Not unenjoyable, haven't beaten fire gym yet and have no real desire to continue.

I did like the candies replacing stat xp though. I chain caught bulbasaur in the first forest and had some fun shitblasting the first gym with a 200+ attack tackle from a level 4 pokemon.

I was the only member of my pokemon go group who owned a switch so I became the meltan distributer, it got me into all the carpools from that point on for free until I moved out of state so it actually saved me money while helping me get out with the community more.

LGPE was a bit of a different story because I didn't have a Switch yet and I liked the Eevee and smug Pikachu design on the LGPE edition Switch, so I ended up buying it. I didn't hate the game, I had fun with it, but it wasn't worth the full $60 they were asking for it.
I'm probably just being incredibly naive, but I'm not buying SWSH with the hope that the backlash will make them make a 3rd/enhanced version that's actually significantly improved from the base game.

Bought Let's Go because I was curious and under the terrible impression that it was mainline enough. Just badly informed, really.
Still kinda enjoyed it, but only as a pretty way to revisit Yellow with some cute cutscenes. Also, it was the first pokemon game since Gen 3 were I could bother (and afford, time-wise) to complete the dex due to no event trash.
Also, played them along with the gf, which makes anything more fun.

Will buy sword and shield for the last reason mentioned, too. Actually looking forward to a cut dex because that means I have a shot at completing it without too much faggotry. Still really pissed at the laziness as I am currently playing XD, which has mostly beautiful animations and has thus aged way better than I thought it would have.

I accepted long ago that the perfect PKMN game will never exist because GameFreak does not understand how to turn itsrough gem into a proper diamond by any means other than a happy accident. Just end me already.

Swoshie doesn't look decent in any way, from content to gameplay to graphics, so there's no real reason for me to get it other than peer pressure. My friend group doesn't care about Pokemon getting culled and are buying it just because it's a new Pokemon game, I may try to buy it off of one of them half price when they get bored next week.

They already had the formula cranking out diamonds a decade ago, but the people in charge don't understand the market and keep trying to turn it into glass because they believe their consumers are sub-0 IQ. And for the most part they're right.

The keyword was "revisiting". LGPE was a pure nostalgia trip - exploration came down to finding differences between it and the original games.

SM repeated the cardinal mistake of RS. I had no joy in catching some PKMN and realize that it isn't in any of the island dexes.

For Pokemon you find in gen 7 it's literally only the daily island scan if you even bother, or USM ultra space mons

Didn't help. The sheer fact that they dropped the national dex despite all the data being there killed all motivation to fill in the island dexes by normal means and then fill up the rest through bank. I was looking forward to that, so realizing there was no national dex while playing was a simple gut punch. After the culled RS gut punch over 10 years ago, I can't really care about a third one. It's numb already, anyways.

They actually marketed it as being a side game for casuals rather than a proper game for the real fans. SwSh was going to be that game, but since LGPE sold well they figured 'why bother making good games when we can just phone it in and charge $60'.

Yes, I did. Partly because they were in a bundle I wanted. I enjoyed them for what they were keeping in mind that the "real" games were next year. I had big expectations for then and hoo boy did they disappoint. SWSH don't even have the better aspects of Let's Go like riding Pokemon, in battle scaling etc.
So now that SWSH sucks, I hate both games. This is not how the transition to home console should have went.

They don't want to make a diamond. They deliberately introduce QOL changes and features unique to certain entries so people have a reason to go back to them. They do this to prevent the scale of the game blowing out of control, and to keep sales higher for older entries. If you want to a game with 16 badges, play johto. If you want secret bases, play hoenn. If you want Z moves, play alola. It's the reason the battle frontier in its entirety hasn't been seen in a long time, and it's also why smaller scale changes like being able to play the whole game with the touscreen+dpad in HGSS hasn't returned too. It would financially harm them to be too ambitious. Masuda is on record saying HGSS did too much.

But that just shows that the format is outdated for kind of game they are making/should be making. The whole Pokemon concept screams base game + adventures. They already somehow do that with home + new editions, but in order to make a better game, they have to be more brave and move more content from the editions to such a base game. In turn, that would free them from doing too much shit over and over in the adventure games.
