>>40967292Really, even setting aside the cutscenes & railroading, all that has to be said is that they made a game set in Hawaii where you DON'T SURF BETWEEN THE ISLANDS. what the fuck. i was literally flabberblasted. you don't surf between the islands on a long voyage, doing open ocean fishing for huge powerful fishmons, encountering old salty fishermen and burly hawaiian surfers.
Also, after gen 6, how the FUCK did they not bring back Diving in a game set in hawaii? what the FUCK? people actually go there for scuba diving. CORAL REEFS. sunken sailing ships. fucking DEEP SEA TRENCHES with ungodly hydrothermal vent pokemon. so many FUCKING OBVIOUS possibilities.
and we got nothing but some theme park islands.... jesus christ. still can't believe it.
>>40967648Gen 5 was pretty good in terms of game design and progression, and in retrospect even had one of the better plots. B2W2 are definitely among the more replayable games. Triple & rotation battles are interesting and a valuable addition.
However I think a lot of the monster designs were kinda forgettable. I would say that the first like, really questionable pokemon designs started to appear in gen 4 (magmortar, lickilicky, box legends), and it just kept getting worse. Everyone got pissed about samurott, then the elemental monkeys were fucking lame, and also the box legendaries were ugly imo. also... sawk and throh.
It's kind of funny, because at the time, I really hated gen5, but in retrospect, i find b2w2 way more enjoyable to replay than hgss, which I never thought I'd say. bw1 is still pretty eh though, mostly just because it's hard to find any mons that aren't lame to use.
