>>40976730>This has also been pushed by a hundreds of billions of dollar misinformation campaign targeted at Conservatives by Big Energy. Leaked documents show that Big Energy actually knew of dangerous Climate Change by the late 1970s.We knew about it yes, but shale is a huge threat to oil and basically devalues all effort spent at exploration. Investing in capital intensive infrastructure, as with CNG refining and nuclear, protects energy companies from competition as with shale.
What you're describing is actually the product of weak men in the executive positions, who don't have the vision or talent to do anything more than try to double down on the core business. Think what happened to AT&T (wired is our industry) or Kodak (film is our industry). They got BTFO by innovators who used their own patents to build out wireless and digital photography.
Big Oil recognized that 'environmentalism', or simply diversifying and pursuing alternative energy infrastructure, is more profitable and stable than protectionism of the old business model.
Nobody in oil today denies climate change. It's basically a Republican meme/boogeyman at this point.
