Yes, Normal is the white bread of Types. The fact that it is boring and vanilla is the point, though. We HAVE to have a Type like that, to represent non-elementals. More importantly, if we DIDN'T have Normal as a Type, the rest of the Types would seem less exotic.
In order for something to be perceived as magical, you need normal things to compare them to, to provide a frame of reference. Without Normal, everything else would seem boring. Plus some people actually like the quiet, adaptable, humble vibe that Normal Type represents.
Normal Types don't even have NO special powers, their special power is just not obvious. Basically, Normals can do pretty much anything, but are not masters of any of it. On the surface, they SEEM like nothing special. But in reality Normal Types, are constantly synthesizing all things together.
