A lot of people don't like it. They may be a minority but you know Game Freak is doing something wrong when they have to cancel in-person appearances and Nintendo let's their game be refunded. If you care about this series and actually want it to improve, and not stagnate or decline, you would speak up or not buy it.

I work, have friends, go out, go to college, I never had any problem talking about my enjoyment of games to anyone, but all I get back is always "That sounds cool! I don't really know much about that stuff though haha", hell, most don't even own PlayStations and if they do it's solely to play Fifa games.
I know Nintendo's ads try to get you to believe otherwise, but that kind of person you described doesn't care about games to begin with and they think Pokemon is this fun little phone app they played for some months during release and that's it.

I'm not an autistic person irl like many here, I actually have friends and acquaintances who I have no problem talking to because I'm not an insecure little bitch. Many people genuinely don't care or even know about console games, many don't even know about PC games at all and only play phone stuff. Hell, every time I mention Zelda in college they don't even know who the hell Link is, you're overestimating your average normie. People who use Twitter and such may be casuals but they aren't normies in the sense of the word, they're probably in some fandom already or know the bare minimum about games. Actual, irl normies don't even bother.
