I feel like car->4x4->truck is a better 3 stage progression, because a motorcycle is sufficiently different as to not be related. Alternatively, there could be a scyther/scizor dynamic with a motorcycle and truck 2 stage pokemon where the evolution trades speed for tankiness.

Grass/bug amplifies the fire weakness, fire/bug amplifies the grass resistance and water/bug neutralises both other types. Imo water/bug wouldn't really fit because it would make the type match ups less meaningful, but the others would be interesting.

Do any of the already existing snake-mons have a sidewinding thing going on?
Because that could fit in well with fire since it’s a desert adaptation.
Maybe something weird like having the evolved form be a snake arranged in a biped or quadruped shaped bundle/coil with the legs formed out of loops of its body, which is basically an extreme version of how it lifts its body up when sidewinding.

Generally when naming fakemon, I look for words (foreign or native language) that relate to parts of the design. Maybe look into synonyms or technical vocabulary as well. Ultimately, it needs to be something that rolls off the tongue and feels congruent with its appearance.

As an extension of that idea and riffing off a desert theme, maybe have the final stage be the snake wrapped around itself into the general form of a mummy?
The snakes actual head could be peaking through the coils forming the ‘head’ of the mummy, or it could have a cobra hood form a pharaoh headdress.

I once had a similar idea for a fan design of a totally different fighting-monsters media. (The webcomic Monster Pulse, it was an intestine fan-monster)

Just saw his gallery. I think his designs are brought down by being too similar to past designs. You can even see how each Gen affected his designs if you look at his gallery. Some of them even look like they could be just regional variations, instead of new Pokémon.

I know I already showed you the starters for my Pacific Northwest region, but I want to show you some tidbits about them.

Grass is the serious one, Fire’s the funny one, and Water’s the cool one
For evolutions, the Grass starter’s final form will hold a wooden staff in its mouth that allows to use mystical powers. the Fire starter’s final form becomes a more fearsome version of the base form with flames on its chest like an Asiatic Black Bear. The Water starter’s final form resembles Garudamon from Digimon

Does anyone have an opinion on how many new pokemon should be in a generation? The most new pokemon at once was gen 5 with 156, and the least was gen 6 with 72 (although that doesn't count megas, so it's kind of deceptive).

Also I believe we shouldn't look at it from the same perspective of having Pokemon to fit the same niches
Such as "starter birds with three evos you encounter on the first route" or "rodent with two evos you counter on first route" or "cute pikachu wannabe"
Let's spice things up
What if you could catch the first evo line of a powerful dragon on the first route, you just can't evolve it until much later?
Also not every Pokemon needs to evolve.

And dare I say let's not have water/fire/grass as our starter types.
I like the idea that used to get tossed around of dark/ghost/psychic types.

Dragon pseudos is another niche that's played out at this point

Also it would be neat if we got the chance to catch a legendary Pokemon halfway through the game, only it doesn't have OP stats
Legendary Pokemon shouldn't have to have OP stats, what makes them legendary is that no one knows for sure if they actually exist

And speaking of legendaries, it would be refreshing to not have trios/masters
And also not too many, maybe 3-5 at max all with different stories and obscure ways of unlocking them

I see no problem with getting the pseudo early, it's still going to evolve late. As far as starters, I still like fire/water/grass. The problem with dark/ghost/psychic is that dark is strong against both other starters, while psychic is strong against none of them. Perhaps dark/psychic/fighting could work, but it's still a break with tradition that I struggle to justify when fwg already has such good balance

oh, bro, nice to hear, i've been wanting to use your concept for like half a year now. i found it such a shame this went unused after pokéaus disbanded. i'm part of a group that works on a FR rom hack called pkmn basalt which takes place in a region based on russia, mostly siberia. with a lot of seas, i want a small emphasis on sailing and fishing. we already have a lot of fakemon but his one would fit so good in it. what do you think?
